Dr. Rajendra Prasad Sharma, Former D.G.P. of Odisha, assumed the office of the Lokayukta as Member on 08.08.2019. Born on 15th May, 1960, Dr.R.P.Sharma was appointed to the Indian Police Service in 1986 and belongs to Odisha Cadre. After completion of IPS training, he commenced his career as Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Rayagada. He also worked as SDPO, Nawarangpur and Additional Superintendent of Police, Bhubaneswar. He served as Superintendent of Police in Kalahandi, Berhampur, Dhenkanal and Balasore districts and as Deputy Inspector General of Police, CID Crime Branch and Deputy Inspector General of Police, Central Range, Cuttack. On deputation to the Government of India, he worked as Zonal Director, Narcotics Control Bureau at Jodhpur, Rajasthan. He also worked as Deputy Inspector General of Police (Administration) and Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) in National Security Guard (NSG), New Delhi. He has served in United Nation Peacekeeping Mission in Haiti, Central America. He worked as Anti-Corruption and Crime Prevention Expert in the United Nations’ Office on Drugs and Crime, Office for South Asia at New Delhi. He was a member of INTERPOL Group of Experts on Police Training (IGEPT) from 2009 to 2013. He prepared an Action Plan for prevention and control of HIV/AIDS in the Central Para Military Forces of India which was implemented from 2006 to 2009. He served as Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack from August,2013 to January,2016 and as D.G. of Police-Cum-Director, Vigilance from January,2016 to August,2017. He served as the Director General of Police of Odisha from August,2017 to August,2019. He is a recipient of President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, Police Medal for Meritorious Service, Governor’s Medal, U.N. Peacekeeping Medal, Police Special Duty Medal, Police Antrik Suraksha SevaPadak, Commendation Disc of DG, NSG, and Odisha Vigilance Diamond Jubilee Medal. He has also received prestigious FICCI Smart Policing Awards in the category of “Elderly Safety” and “Women Safety” for innovative measures taken by him as Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack in the year 2014 and 2015. By virtue of Notification No-10550 dtd.03.04.2024 of G.A. & P.G. Department he assumed the office of the Chairperson with effect from 04.04.2024 and acting as such.
